This morning I told my husband that I didn’t know what to write about today. He told me that he’d give me a verse and I could run with it. He quoted Acts 17:26-28 (see below). Naturally, I thought of chicken pot pie.

“And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.'” – Acts 17:26-28

So God made all people “from one blood.” Sure we look and talk differently, but in all the ways that matter we’re the same. We are all people loved by God. And each person is important.

Here’s where the pot pie comes in. There are a lot of ingredients in one of those scrumptious dishes. There’s the crust, the chicken, vegetables, and the soupy stuff. Each part is special, and you couldn’t have a pot pie without all of it.

No one part is more important than the others. They’re different. But they’re the same. They are parts of a whole.

For all of us, our purpose is to seek the Lord. My purpose is not to be a physical therapist. That is one of the ways I serve God, because it helps me to provide for my family and gives me opportunities to meet people, some of whom want to talk about God. But it isn’t my reason for existence.

God is near to us all. He is only a prayer away from His children, and that’s what we are. We are God’s sons and daughters, and we are heirs with Christ.

In this holiday season, let’s focus on what makes us the same. Let’s be unified in God.
