Hey there! There’s a bonus download for this article. For a worksheet to help you decide if the goal you’ve got in mind is the one for you, check it out here.
Life has a funny way of hitting us where we’re vulnerable. It’s where I’m unsure that things try to drag me down. Like when I have a long term goal that’s not essential but that I really REALLY want. Writing, for example. Even though I don’t want to let go of a goal, sometimes I start to question it.I start wondering if the goal is really worth it. If I’m good enough to make it happen. Especially if it’s something that mostly depends on me. What happens if I spend years working for it and nothing ever comes of it? What if there’s something more important I should have been doing, but I didn’t see it because I was too focused on something else? I get stressed just thinking about it.
So let’s walk through it together. First, have you tried to stop doing whatever it is we’re talking about? I have. It didn’t work. And I’m so glad I did it because I learned something. It felt like a part of me had been taken and boxed away. I missed writing. Not in the I can’t wait till the next season of Designated Survivor starts kind of way. In the this is a part of my life and it’s gone kind of way.
And that’s when I knew. Really knew.
I’m a writer.
So how can we know if we should hold on to something? I like to think about why I’m doing it. For me, writing is a release. I also want to use it as a way I can share my faith with others. My husband has his ministry, and I try to help him, but this is something I can do.
Having goals is a good thing. We just need to keep things balanced. Spending all our time on something at the expense of other things that are important, like church and family or our obligations, isn’t healthy. On the other hand, having a goal and never spending much time on it isn’t productive either. I know if I want to write a book and have it published it’s going to take a lot of time. If I don’t work at it consistently it’ll never happen. Which is also not good.
So is your goal holding you back from doing things you know you should be doing? Or is your fear of choosing wrong making you question everything? Remember that just because your goal is different doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. It makes things lonely sometimes, but it doesn’t make them wrong. God gave us all talents. When you find yours, use what He gave you. In chasing that dream, make sure you keep God in mind and do everything for Him.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:10
God made us individually, and He gives us each a chance to do something for Him. There’s more than one way to share God with people. The important thing is that we do.
What about you? Have you owned whatever goal you have?

It seems you’re talking straight to me, dear friend! 🙂
I was thinking, maybe it’s time to revive that cross-post idea?

It was kind of a talk to myself I had needed. I’m glad you could relate to it!
I think it’s a good idea. Now I just have to come up with an idea good enough to share! 🙂

Thanks for reading and chiming in! It’s funny how we often go through similar struggles in life and as writers, but maybe we can encourage each other because of it.
